Why I Joined AAA and How It’s Paid For Itself

AAA-Join-Saving

I have friends who highly recommend AAA for their RoadSide assistance program, but that’s not what got me to join.  What got me to join was the hotel savings I found they offered while planning our latest road trip.

There are many hotels that AAA offers discounts on, including the two I was most interested in since they were the best fit for us as we traveled west – Comfort Inns and Best Westerns.  For Best Western you can save up to 20%, while Comfort Inn offers 10% savings off the Best Available Rate.

I will concede the prices aren’t quite as low as Advance PurchaseRates, but they don’t allow cancellation.  When I planned the trip, I needed the option of being able to change the dates,  so I was very pleased with a rate that saved me $15 to $20 per room, per night.

Considering we would be staying at hotels for 12 nights, my savings was around $180 which far exceeded the $74 I paid for my AAA membership.

As an added benefit we did have the protection of AAA Roadside Assistance.  Fortunately, we didn’t need it during our travels, but I now have that protection for the rest of the year.

More Places to Save Just Showing Your AAA Card

Tanger Outlet – Just stop at Tanger Shopper Services Center and present your AAA card to receive a Free Tanger Coupon Book with discounts up to 20% off.  Be sure to check these other money saving tips I learned at the Outlet Mall.

Dunhams Sporting Stores – Official rules say save 10% off regular priced merchandise, but on my last visit the cashier asked if I had a AAA card because I could use that to save on sale items.

NY&C – Save 20% off your entire purchase with some exclusions like sale bigger than 30% off or BOGO Free deals.

Payless Shoes – 10% off regularly priced merchandise

Adidas Outlet – 20% off total purchase

Lenscrafters 30% off Complete Pair eyewear

Sprint – 10% on select Regularly Priced Monthly Service Plans.  Please pay attention to the word regularly here.  I had a Sprint representative explain the AAA discount to me in an untruthful manner to get me to sign up.  Fortunately for me, Sprint was very good at rectifying the situation since it was their employee that lied and I had not been aware of the specifics.  He just told me I could save more with AAA card.

In addition, you can save on tickets to the movies and Kennywood when you purchase online with your AAA card.

So if you are planning a trip that requires hotel stays or rental cards, you should definitely consider AAA.  I know this Frugal Minded Mom feels it was worth it.
