10 Ways to Use Tabasco Pepper Sauce other than Cooking

It’s been awhile since I’ve shared a new Repurpose Your Stockpile Item with you, but that’s what I have today.  This time is Tabasco Pepper Sauce which you very often can get a $.50/1 coupon for.  Use the coupon at a store that doubles, and you’ll often be able to get a bottle for under a buck.   I know I have several bottles in my stockpile.

While I find quite a few uses for Tabasco Sauce in my cooking, there are also many other uses.  Here are 10 other ways Tabasco Sauce can help you with your Home and Health.  In many cases, they can replace a more expensive product.

Household Uses of Tabasco Pepper Sauce

Deter Squirrels – Put a couple drops into birdseed to keep the pesky squirrels from eating it all.

Protect Houseplants – Don’t let spider mites, whiteflies, aphids and thrips kill your houseplants.  Puree two tablespoons of Tabasco Pepper sauce with three cloves of garlic and add it to three cups of water and 2 TBSP of biodegradable Liquid detergent.  Strain it all into a spray bottle and coat the leaves of the plant

Keep Cats from Scratching Woodwork   Rub Tabasco Pepper Sacue on wood and buff thoroughly.  The faint smell will repel the cats.

Tabasco Pepper Sauce for Your Health

Curb Nail Biting  – With a smal brush or q-tip, paint a thin layer of tabasco sauce on each nail – or the ones you are most prone to bite.  Be careful with children, because it could cause burning of the eyes.

Relieve a Toothache – If a tooth is bothering you and you don’t want to make an emergency visit to the dentist, apply a dab of Tabasco pepper sauce to the gum.  It will distract your tooth.

Take the Pain out of a Bruise – Apply Tabasco Pepper Sauce to the tender area to numb the pain.  This works because of the alkaloid capsaicin in it.  Just be sure apply to an open wound.

Curb a Cough – Mix together one half cup Apple Cider Vinegar, 1 cup water, 1 tsp Tabasco Pepper Sauce and 4 tsp Honey.  Take One TBSP of mixture when the cough acts up and another a bedtime.  Do not give to children under 1 due to the honey.

Take the Sting out – If you get stung by a bee or wasp, not only will coating it with Tabasco Sauce help the pain, but also the vinegar in the Pepper Sauce will disinfect the sting.  Just be sure to remove stinger prior to applying the Sauce.

Clear the Respitory Tract – Suffering from a cold, Tabasco Sauce can come to the rescue.   Just mix ten to 20 drops of Tabasco Pepper Sauce in a class of water and gargle.  The capsaicin works as a natural decongestant and as a result will help your throat feel better too.

Relieve Back Pain  Ever look at the ingredients in Ben-Gay or Icy Hot.  One of the top ones is Capsaicin that is also in Tabasco Sauce.  So instead of spending a fortune on the rub, use the sauce which you can often get for under a buck.  If it burns, apply some Colgate Toothpaste, which you probably have in your stockpile for Free too.  Once again, make sure to not apply to an open wound.
