New Coupon Policy at Giant Eagle | Here’s What’s changed

Giant-Eagle-Coupon-Policy

There’s a new coupon policy at Giant Eagle.  It’s so new that it hasn’t even changed on the Giant Eagle web page, but my cashier made sure to mention it to me today, and also provided me with a new coupon policy brochure.

I have scored through it and compared it to the old policy.  Here’s a table with the major differences.  Things in bold are the new policies.

Over all, definitely looks like couponing at Giant Eagle has become a bit harder.

Old Coupon Policy

New Coupon Policy

  • One coupon per item(s) purchased as stated on the coupon with a maximum of 12 coupons per same 12 items purchased in a 24-hour period per Giant Eagle Advantage Card® customer.
  • Limit one coupon per item purchase (store coupon, manuafacturer’s coupon or eOffer)
  • A maximum of FIVE like coupons per customer will be accepted in a 24 hour period.  Like coupons are determined by value and item featured on the coupon and must be purchased in size and quantity specified.
  • If a manufacture’s coupon has a more restrictive limit than our policy, the more restrictive limit will apply
  • Coupon value cannot exceed the price of the item(s) purchased. If it does, we can only redeem up to the value of the item(s) purchased (excluding sales tax).
  • Coupon value cannot exceed the price of the item purchased.  If the value of the coupon exceeds the price of the item, the coupon will not be accepted.
  • Large numbers of coupons will not be accepted through self-checkouts, they must go through a cashier.
  • Transactions with more than twenty (20) coupons will not be accepted through self-checkouts.  They must go through a cashier
  • Not included
  • Coupons are valid for one time use AND are limited to redemption from inventory currently on-hand at the store location.
  • We do not double coupons that state “do not double.”
  • No mention of this

In addition to not being able to buy as many like items in a trip, and getting something free for 99 cents with a $1 coupon, the thing that concerns me is the second to last item.  I’m wondering if they included it so you couldn’t use a coupon with rain checks.  What do you think?

So what do you think of the new policy.  Will it keep you from shopping at GIant Eagle as frequently?

That was the disappointment from my trip to Giant Eagle, stay tuned for the new Unadvertised Deals I found and my savings for the week.

  1. Have had so many problems with couponing in the past at Giant Eagle and with the constant rearranging of stock items, Its no longer my first choice in grocery stores.

    • Where do you do most of your shopping now. Unfortunately for me, the only 2 Grocery Stores around are Shop N Save and Giant Eagle. SNS prices are even higher than GE. I do have an Aldis, but you can’t get everything there. Even with the changes, you will still be able to get things Free or for good prices, but you are correct – you can’t just shop at GE anymore.
