Healthy Frugal Toddler Snack | Sweet Potato Chips


My little one has a sweet tooth.  Thankfully, I found a healthy snack that she loves which satisfies that sweet tooth  plus gives her some great nutrients.  To top it all off, it’s extremely frugal and easy to make.  Just 3 ingredients.

It’s Sweet Potato Chips and I used four potatoes that were what I had from a 3 lb bag I picked up for 69 cents.  The only other ingredients used were salt and Extra Virgin Olive Oil.  So literally, these chips just cost cents.

**Produce Picking Tip** — When picking your sweet potatoes choose small or Medium sweet potatoes.  They generally taste better than large ones.  Also, the brighter the skin, the more beta-carotene in the potato.

Give your toddler (or yourself) the nutrients of a sweet potato while satisfying the sweet tooth with this simple and frugal recipe.
Recipe type: Toddler Snack
  • 1 medium size sweet potatoe
  • 1 TBSP Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Salt to Taste
  1. Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees
  2. Wash and dry the sweet potato.
  3. Thinly slice the sweet potato. The thinner the better. It doesn't matter if they are perfect circles. My little one loved the rectangle "chips."
  4. Place Sweet Potato slices in ziploc bag.
  5. Add Olive oil and salt to the bag and shake. Your toddler can help.
  6. Spread out oil covered slices on cookie sheet. Try not to overlap.
  7. Cook at 400 degrees for 10 minutes.
  8. Pull out and flip over "chips"
  9. Turn oven down to 200 degrees and continue cooking for 10 to 15 minutes. Watch carefully because they burn fast.
  10. Enjoy within 1 to 2 days.

I mentioned that this was a great snack for my toddler.  I will admit that it wasn’t my favorite.  I think it’s because when I eat a chip, I don’t think of sweet.
