Money Saving Tip | Don’t be Afraid to Ask

Money-Saving-Tip

So our time in Pittsburgh is coming to an end and when a friend asked me out to lunch before we left, I immediately thought of Primanti Bros.  After all, what’s more Pittsburgh then Primanti’s.  Over our 11 years here,  it is one of the two places we have taken all our guests to to get the true feeling of Pittsburgh.

Before we left for Primanti Bros., I happened to recall I had eight $5 Primanti Brother’s Gift Cards (coupons.) that we had gotten as a gift years ago.   I pulled them out and saw the date.  They were from 2007!  My first thought was there was no way these would still be valid, but then upon further inspection I found no expiration date.

I figured I would take them with us and give them a try.  What’s the worst that could happen?  They would tell me I couldn’t use them.  Definitely not the end of the world, and not even a huge embarrassment.

So, when the bill came, I pulled out the coupons and casually mentioned to the waitress I have these, but I’m not sure if I can use them.  She looked at them and said I will have to check with the manager since this location is not listed on the back.  You see, these gift cards were dated before this particular restaurant was even open.  She came back quickly and said, “Yes, we can accept these.”

Thanks  to the 10 year gift cards and not being afraid to ask, we got a Free meal.  Gotta love a free lunch.!!  My only cost was the tip since I didn’t want to risk the waitress not getting a tip by covering it with a gift card.   Definitely just want to be frugal, not cheap.

So PLEASE don’t be ashamed to ask on something that could save you money even if you think the answer will be no.

You might just be pleasantly surprised and get Yes for the answer and save some money.

This isn’t the first time I’ve use this tip to save money.  Over the years it has

Do you have something you have asked for and ended up saving on?  I would love to hear about it!!

  1. That’s awesome! I think my husband gets more embarrassed when I ask than I do haha. But I always do. You get no’s, but you’ll never get yeses if you don’t ask.

    A Fellow Pittsburgh Primanti’s Lover. 🙂
